The Council is organizing next India Carpet Expo - Varansai 2010 under the aegis of Ministry of Commerce, Govt.. of India. The India Carpet Expo has now been proved to be the sourcing window for the buyers from all over the world and business opportunities for participating manufacturer-exporters are tremendous. The Council has enlarged its efforts in terms of infrastructure & facilities of international stature and India Carpet Expo is opening new business avenues for the participants.

The next India Carpet Expo is scheduled from 29th October to 1st November, 2010 at Varanasi, the venue and participation charges are under finalization and will be informed to the Members shortly.

The Carpet Export Promotion Council is organizing participation of member-exporters in the following forthcoming Activities for 2010-11 under the Scheme of O/o. the DC(Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, under the MDA Scheme of Ministry of Commerce as per details given below alongwith participation charges, in anticipation of Government grants, for each of the following activities. It is an unique opportunity to showcase your products before the potential buyer in these exhibitions:

I / We wish to visit India Carpet Expo, 29th Oct. to 1st Nov., 2010 at Varanasi. I / We furnish our details for registration as under:

Members are aware that a Project has been assigned to Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) for adoption of Bar Coding System for Handicrafts, Textiles, Carpets etc.  through GSI India under Ministry of Commerce. The details of the Scheme have already been circulated to you vide this Council’s letter dated 18th December, 2009 and also reminded on 22nd January, 2010.

Scheme for implementation and Promotion of bar-coding using GS1 Standards in India Handicraft Sector under Research and Development Scheme of Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts)

  1. It will be responsibility of the Members to ensure that in their premises no child labour prohibited by the Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act,1986 is employed.  It will also be their responsibility to ensure that no order for manufacturing carpets/dhurries is given to nor raw material issued for weaving of carpets/dhurries on the loom which has not been registered or has been subsequently de-registered.

Some of the highlights of the new policy announced on 27th August,2009 are given below for information of the Members.

Council’s Election, 2009 has been completed on 17th March, 2010 in Hotel Radisson MBD, NOIDA (U.P.) as per Election Schedule notified vide circular dated  12th February, 2010 and the Annual General Meeting for the year 2008-09 has been concluded. After counting of votes polled, the following members were declared elected:

You are aware that this Council is confronted from time to time with the problem of child labour in the Carpet Industry. To overcome the problem of child labour, the Council has formulated a Code of Conduct for its Member-Exporters. The Code of Conduct requires its Members to ensure that his/her Carpets are woven only on the Looms registered by this Council having no child labour as prohibited by the Child Labour Prohibition & Regulation Act, 1986.

FICCI vide their mail dated 14th Jan., 2009 informed that FICCI conducts Manufacturing Survey that tries to look into the current issues of concern to Indian Manufacturing Sector and also assesses the performance of the sector.  we are forwarding a copy of the mail of FICCI with the request to fill the enclosed questionnaire and send the same directly to FICCI with copy to this Council.

Members are aware that O/o. the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India approved Handicraft Artisans Comprehensive Welfare Scheme – Rajiv Gandhi Shilpi Swasthya Bima Yojana during 2008 which provides health care package of  Rs. 15,000/- per Handicraft Artisan’s  family per year, comprising of four members i.e. insured artisan himself/herself and any three out of spouse, dependent parents and children.  Besides, there is a provision for an insurance cover of Rs.

You may be aware that one of the conditions for Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) is that every RCMC holder shall furnish quarterly returns of exports to the concerned registering authority. An extract of the Para 2.70 of Chapter-2 of Handbook of Procedures, Vol-1, 2004-2009 (updated as on 11th April,2008),  in this regard  is given below:

“Furnishing of Returns 2.70 - Exporters shall furnish quarterly returns/details of his exports of different commodities to concerned registering authority.”
